I am an Assistant Professor of Linguistics at the Indian Institute Technology Guwahati (IITG). Before joining the IITG in 2011, I served as a faculty member in Linguistics at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Yongin, South Korea. I completed my Ph.D. from the University of Florida at Gainesviile, Florida where I studied tones of two Tibeto-Burman languages- Tiwa and Rabha. My specializations are phonetics and phonology. More specifically, I work on the tone languages of the Tibeto-Burman family spoken in the North-East India.

At the Hankuk University of Foreign studies, I taught courses related to phonology, experimental phonetics and general linguistics. Previously at the University of Florida, I taught LIN3010: Introduction to Linguistics. I also served as a teaching assistant for Introduction to Linguistics and Introduction to Phonology. From 2006 until 2008 I worked as a research assistant to Prof. Caroline R Wiltshire in a project related to non-native varieties of English.

My current research interests are tone languages of the Tibeto-Burman familiy, perception of tones, production of tones, Optimality Theoretical account of tones in languages.
